Who do you work for?
Actually, I work for myself. As a “freelance”writer I sell my work to any magazine or book publishing company that would like to publish my stories.
What do you like best about your job?
The fact that I can set my own hours, work very early in the morning or late at night if I choose. I also like being able to work anywhere. I have a study in my home but three or four times a week, I pack up my computer and write at a place called the Fifth Street Bagel Shop. I also like the creative process…the joy of producing something completely unique. I guess I also like how impressed people are when they find out I’ve actually published books. But that still mystifies me because writing seems so easy and fun to me I can’t imagine why anyone would find it impressive!
What do you like least about your job?
In many ways, the things I like most are also the things I like least. Because I’m my own boss and can set my own hours it also means I can give myself a day or a week or a month off and get absolutely nothing done. Sometimes I wish I had someone telling me what to do and giving me deadlines. I also find writing a little bit lonely which is why I go to the Bagel Shop sometimes. It makes me think I’m “going to the office”like normal people.
