On My Reading List – September 2019 through June 2020…

Early each year I pick out the books I’ll be reading with my Book Discussion Group for the coming year. We read books from September through June. After reading reviews, getting opinions from readers I trust, and scanning classics I might have missed, here are the titles I’ve come up with and the reasons they made the cut…

On my reading list for September 2019 through June 2020…

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. I’ve never read it and I think it’s time!

Meg, Jo, Beth, Amy: The Story of Little Women and Why It Still Matters by Anne
Boyd Rioux. It was stumbling on this recent title that led me to take a look back
at the original.

The Flapper, the Impostor, and the Stalker by Charlene Bell Dietz. Listed as one
of the best Indie books for 2018, it looks like a great mystery.

Dancing Bears: True Stories of People Nostalgic for Life Under Tyranny by
Witold Szablowski. Intriguing reviews and the subject matter drew me like a
magnet.

Asymmetry by Lisa Halliday. A first novel that got glowing reviews.
Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeygram. This novel was
recommended by several reading friends.

The Ravenmaster by Christopher Skaife. A true account of what it’s like to tend
the ravens in the Tower of London.

Mothers: Stories by Chris Power. I don’t usually read short stories but this debut
collection includes three that interlock. The Guardian called it “daring” so I
thought I’d give it a go.

Little Fires Everywhere by Celest Ng. Recommended by several friends this
contemporary novel is set in the city where I came of age in the 1950s. I thought
it might be interesting to see how things in my old town have changed.

Look for my reviews of these titles, month by month, starting soon!
