When I asked two educators to create lesson plans for Just Fine the Way They Are, I had no idea how far the term “lesson plan” had evolved since my days as a first grade teacher back in the 1970s. The “Social Studies/Transportation” resources they have written for home-school and classroom teachers are formatted just like the “Writer’s Craft” and the “Comprehension” plans. They start with an essential question, big ideas, and explicit teaching on the main page. From there, you can click through to specific activities for large and small groups, complete with worksheets to reproduce or project onto a whiteboard.
The only thing missing is the wonderful smell of those old-fashioned mimeograph machines and the blue noses of my students when I passed out a newly-printed set of worksheets!
